4th of July 2013

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays.  I love spending some extended time at the lake -- swimming, boating, spending time with family and eating.  Lots, and lots of eating!

This year was no different.  Our kids spent a full 10 days at the lake with Grandma and Grandpa and Ryan and I had to split our time a bit due to work obligations.  We still got to spend plenty of quality time up there though!

This year's 4th of July celebration kicked off with Ryan, me and Ryan's cousin Alli (a college student) running in a local 5k at Lake Wawasee.  The course was HILLY, not at all what I'm used to in Central Indiana!  We had a good time and out of the three of us, I finished last.  womp. womp.  At least I finished though, right?  We ran the race and made it back before breakfast.

A little tradition of mine is buying my kids 4th of July pjs.  I'm such a sucker for any kind of holiday wear.  Too bad I got such blurry pics of them.  Mama fail.  :)

After breakfast, we showered and got ready and headed to my hometown, about 20 minutes away for the 4th of July parade.  My aunt and uncle still live in my hometown and my Aunt Susan joined us for the parade.

Our little family, decked out in our 4th of July attire, waiting for the parade to start:

I love watching my kids enjoying themselves -- they loved the firetrucks...

and the kids riding in bathtubs, pulled by a four wheeler...

and the jacked up and modified wagons, being pulled by a golf cart.

But once they noticed the candy being tossed in their directions, the interest in the parade quickly dissipated into CANDY!  OMG, CANDY!!

We're still enjoying that candy almost 20 days later!

After the parade, lunch and visiting with my Aunt and Uncle, and a few rides around their gorgeous property on their Gator, we headed back to the lake.

The traditional picture with all of the cousins, all festive for the occasion.

And finally, some quiet time down by the water with my little sailor:

We capped off the evening with a preschool fireworks show -- a bunch of fireworks we bought for $20 at Walmart.  The littles LOVED it!  The lake's fireworks weren't until Saturday night, so we had a few more days to celebrate before ending our holiday.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Fourth of July!

Sounds like the perfect day! Your kids are adorable!

P.S. I'm impressed your candy has lasted so long...can't say the same for ours. Salt water taffy is a weakness of mine!
