Hi All! I'm baaaack! I know I've been failing at blogging, but I'm hoping to do better. I have been up to lots of things, just a little preoccupied to write about them.
The holidays (ALL OF THEM) were not so great for my waistline. I was great about running up until the week of Thanksgiving and then I slacked off the rest of November and all of December. And I ate everything I wanted and I drank A LOT. December always means tons of holiday parties for me, including personal and family parties as well as a bunch of work-related functions. Lots of booze, plus holiday goodies and holiday meals meant I gained back a bunch of weight I had lost last year. :( I did it to myself and now I'm fixing that.
Enter the Advocare 10 Day Cleanse.
I'm not much of a cleanse-r or even a person that believes in a bunch of supplements. This is the first time I've done anything remotely like this. I know that for me, losing weight will only happen with a better diet. Yes, exercise helps, but honestly, I have eat well to notice any change in the scales. I thought the Cleanse would be a great way to kick-start my weight loss and help me get back in the groove of making better choices.
I started January 1. Happy new year to me! Anyway, January 1 was as good of time as any for me to start. I don't have any traditional things I eat for the new year. No cabbage or black eyed peas or any other superstitious foods, so I jumped into the Cleanse headfirst. Buh bye wine, Christmas cookies, party mix, holiday leftovers and my beloved coffee (aka creamer with some coffee mixed in).
I'm on day 7 now and I'm actually feeling pretty good. I haven't been tired (anymore than usual, ya know), and I haven't been too hungry. I tend to eat certain things mostly out of habit, so breaking those habits has been the hardest part. I love to have something sweet after dinner and have a glass of wine after my kids go to bed. No sweets and no wine on the cleanse. I miss coffee. I miss wine. But, I have discovered some new recipes that I like and new ways of making old favorites, like taco salads with lettuce, shredded chicken, black beans, corn (frozen, not canned), and some spicy salsa. It's delicious and sounds really good right this minute. This recipe is an excellent way to prepare salmon without any oil or butter. It's so good we've had it twice in a week. I've also discovered some newly found willpower. My husband has bought Oreos (damn him for doing so while I'm cleansing) and I've stayed away. My family had popcorn while watching a movie yesterday and I stayed away.
I'm also seeing some good results on the scale, not surprising since I ate nothing but garbage and wine for about 5 weeks straight. I'm not sure what my plan will be come Saturday, but I'll figure it out and let you know my final weight loss as of Saturday morning.
Happy 2014 and I hope to be back soon!
